Sweden Refuses to Allow Baby Metallica

Michael and Karolina Tomaro decided to christen their baby daughter Metallica, after the heavy metal band. But Sweden's tax authority refused to register the name. In Sweden, parents must get the names of their children approved by the tax authority, which is in charge of the population registry and issues personal identification numbers.

A court sided with the Tomaros, but the tax agency appealed. Until a higher court rules, baby Metallica, now 6 months old, doesn't legally have a name. The Tomaros haven't been able to bring their daughter to visit family in Germany, because they can't get her a passport.

"We had to cancel trips at Christmas and Easter. Now we have booked a trip for the summer. Maybe we'll have to cancel that, too," the child's mother said.
